I’m Still Alive, What I Did for Valentine’s Day, and Also, Some Blog Housekeeping

Personal Musings

Hi all, I just wanted to send out a quick update since it’s been a few days since I’ve posted. If you’ve been following this blog since its conception about seven months ago, first- holy cow, thank you, you’re amazing and the support truly means the world to me! And actually, while I’m at it, also a holy cow to all of the new subscribers and people who have stopped by recently. As some of you know, I was laid off a few months ago and now work primarily from home but thanks to the wonderful people I’ve met through this blog and great, fulfilling exchanges, I’ve barely noticed a difference between being in an office surrounded by people all day and being at home with my dog. Wait, is that sad? …NAH.

In any case, as I’ve mentioned, I’m really trying to use this time to explore new opportunities and as things evolve, I’m finding it increasingly difficult to keep to my regular Monday, Wednesday, Friday posting schedule that I miraculously maintained throughout 2011. Consequently, I’ve decided to transition to a more organic posting schedule that allows life and its many adventures to unfold as they will instead of trying to force blogging into that schedule and thus, sometimes, cutting those adventures short (which would kind of run contrary to writing about a life of adventure anyway, no?). I still expect to post several times a week, but if you don’t find me on here for a couple of days, rest assured I will eventually be back. In the meantime, just imagine me doing something super amazing instead of sitting on my couch eating bon bons and talking to my dog. And if you want an update or reminder when a new post comes up, please sign up for e-mail updates, or follow me on Twitter or Facebook.

So, since I’m already on this tangent, what did everyone do for Valentine’s Day (if anything)? Anyone reading this post while hiding in the bathroom during a bad date? I’m personally not a big fan of Valentine’s Day- initially because I was traumatized during high school as one of those who never had a date, and now that I’m in a relationship, it just doesn’t seem terribly important (or any more important than any other day where we should be celebrating and working on our relationship). However, in keeping with my life’s purpose of doing random, quirky things, J and I celebrated by going to the New York Transit Museum for their Missed Connections party, where an artist and a poet did humorous readings and reflections of those ads (you know, “you: brown hair, blue shirt. me: red hair, brown backpack. our eyes met and I knew I loved you.” That kind of stuff.).

Missed Connections
I think it may have been a singles event (I’m still not sure), but if it was, luckily J and I weren’t the only couple who didn’t get the message. In either case, it managed to be a fun event that was both sentimental and cynical. Ah, New York and your hokey activities.

Since I was at the Transit Museum, I figured I might as well take some photos in the bus. Hey, why not.

Let’s see, what else have I been up to for the past few weeks? I went on a tour of a jail that’s opening back up in Brooklyn, managed to convince J and a couple of friends to go to a Victorian Ball for some English Country Dancing (think getting down, Jane Austen style) and cut off 10 inches of hair for Pantene’s Beautiful Lengths program (I decided at the last minute to go with them instead of Locks of Love. If anyone’s interested in donating their hair, I’m happy to chat about it.).

So now that you’re caught up, stay tuned for this week’s exciting conclusion to my East Africa adventures! See you later this week!

Sounds like a happy fun time for you now! I love that you donated your hair! I was going to go it as my hair was incredibly long in china but they won’t accept colored hair and as a dark blond I get highlights a few times per year. I was really disappointed as I have a few friends undergoing chemo and thought how nice it would be to help the cause. A friend of mine’s three young daughters all did it and I thought that was so cool! Anyway you are at a very exciting time in your life so enjoy it! Things get a little more tricky once you are like me, married with two young kids. But I stills age to work in some adventure!!!!

Yeah now that I don’t have to go into an office, I thought it was the perfect time to let my hair grow out because I don’t have to be as coifed. I almost quit a few times, too be honest- the super long length was such a pain to deal with. But I’m glad I did it! It’s too bad they don’t accept dyed hair- I think they might accept vegetable dyes but does that exist for blonde highlights?

LOVe your hair!! I’ve NEVER seen you with shorter hair! And I agree about letting the blog roll with the punches instead of forcing a M,W,F scheduling. Trying to schedule my trip for April, I have to come see you guys. :D

Thanks- it’s actually just to my shoulders so it’s not too too short but enough to feel very freeing! It’s been probably about 15 years since I’ve had it this short!

Of course what I focused on – besides the Jane Austen getting down dancing – is that you cut your hair!! It looks wonderful.
